Derrick has lived in Iowa his entire life. After graduating from Southeast Polk High School, he moved to Cedar Falls to attend the University of Northern Iowa, finishing with degrees in both Finance and Real Estate. After graduating from college Summa Cum Laude, he immediately entered the real estate world in the Commercial Real Estate Department at Principal Financial Group as an analyst, later becoming an underwriter.
During his seven-year tenure as Principal, he helped originate over $1 billion in commercial mortgages. He also received his MBA from the University of Iowa during this time. His personal real estate investing started in 2001, when he bought his first duplex. By 2008, he had acquired several rental properties around the greater Des Moines area and his real estate investing hobby became his full-time job.
Since then, he has never looked back, buying, and selling hundreds of homes and helping many families around central Iowa over the last 20 years. Derrick’s extensive education and real-life experience in the real estate field, mixed with his ability to problem solve and passion to help people, sets him apart from his peers when it comes to finding creative solutions to one’s real estate needs. Derrick currently resides in Pleasant Hill, IA with his wife and five boys.
